Operation Shoebox NJ Seeking Volunteers for 2011 Season

Release Date: March 13, 2011

Operation Shoebox NJ to continue helping support our troops overseas, is looking for volunteers to work the concession stand at TD Bank for the 2011 baseball season.

Spring is days away and that means BATTER UP for Baseball Season 2011 and Operation Shoebox NJ!  No one is more anxious than me after the snowfall amounts we have had dumped in West Milford this Winter!  Right now the smell of freshly cut grass, warm summer nights, the crack of the bat as the ball is hit out of the park, coupled with the sounds of fireworks can't come too soon!

Operation Shoebox NJ has once again been invited to work the concession stands at TD Bank Ballpark for 2011.  Last year's success was tremendous, recognizing over $14,000 raised so that we may continue our mission.  CenterPlate has again been very generous in granting our requests for dates and we were given 6 Firework nights!

As with the 2010 season, CenterPlate is requiring "Training" again for 2011.  All volunteers are encouraged to attend the Core & Front line training.  These training sessions/classes will be held at the ballpark.  The volunteers who took the class last year will be exempt, but all others need to sign up. (NOTE: for our groups (corporations) this will not apply, but our regular volunteers, please try to attend one of these training sessions. However, if you're unable to attend these training sessions, it will not prevent you from volunteering.)

The following are the training dates at the ballpark:

   Tuesday, March 15 - 6:00 p.m.
   Monday, March 21 - 6:00 p.m.
   Sunday, April 10 - 1:00 p.m.

Please, send me your date preference, so that I may submit it to Stanley Wilkins and Tiffany Vallone ASAP.  These training sessions are limited to 10-35 people and will be held in one of the Sky Box Suites.  Please call me if you have questions.

Our first date is Saturday, April 9th, during the Somerset Patriots Fan Fest.  We are scheduled to work the 3rd base concession stand and need 21 volunteers.

Arrival time: 10 AM.

This is an excellent day to work for first timers.  We will have a limited menu, since the ballpark will not have officially opened and usually shorter lines.  Last year our commission from Fan Fest was over $500!

CenterPlate still requires a dress code:  white collared shirt, pants - black, navy or khaki (NO jeans), shoes or sneakers (NO open-toe shoes, clogs or sandals).

They will provide an apron and a meal ticket of your choice.

Click here for the flyer of our dates.  Times shown are 2 hours BEFORE the actual game times.  These are the expected times we are required to be in attendance for prepping, setting up etc.  Please ask your friends, neighbors and co-workers if they can lend us a hand, so that we may continue our efforts.  This is a great team-building opportunity for companies small and large, civic groups, religious and fraternal organizations and families.  Feel free to make copies and post it if you're able at your office.  Remember more hands make light work!

This year we are heavily depending on the monies raised from the ballpark.  As some of you may not know, A&P, due to their financial instability, has elected NOT to organize a fundraiser project for OPSHBX.  Last year they were able to raise over $35,000 over the Memorial Day weekend, which carried us through the year.  Without this money, we need to continue the ballpark and research additional fund-raising opportunities.  That said, please review the flyer and select some dates.  If everyone would agree to work 4-5 dates early in the season, that would be a tremendous help and lessen my frantic pleas and emails.

Please RSVP to me and @ opshbxnj@yahoo.com (Rod's email at headquarters).  Any questions, please feel free to contact me via my cell:  973.907.4268.

Thanking you in advance from us at Operation Shoebox NJ and our troops overseas!  Terribly sorry over the length of this email.  Thank you again and let's GO PATRIOTS!!!

Respectfully,
