Suraci Selected Mayor; McCauley Chosen Deputy Mayor in Hillsborough for 2012

Release Date: January 07, 2012

Top Priorities: Solar Project Completion; GSA Park and Continued Fiscal Responsibility for Taxpayers

Hillsborough’s Township Committee, at its annual re-organization meeting Tuesday evening, selected Carl Suraci as Mayor and Gloria McCauley as Deputy Mayor to serve the Township for 2012.  Suraci served as Deputy Mayor last year and brings extensive knowledge and experience as he was also Mayor in 2006.  McCauley and Doug Tomson, elected in November, were sworn into three year terms on the Township Committee.

Following his swearing in by Senator Kip Bateman, Suraci provided 2011 highlights, which concluded with the remembrance of dear friend and long time Hillsborough resident, the late Assemblyman Peter J. Biondi.  Suraci mentioned that a building dedication ceremony will be forth coming and details will be made available shortly.

As Suraci looked into the future of 2012, he vowed to remain “fiscally responsible, pledging to minimize the tax impact and continuing to control spending, while retaining the high level of services our Township Residents expect.”

“Our focus this year will be the completion of the solar project and assisting with the 1st phase of the GSA Park, while retaining the business friendly atmosphere we have established in Hillsborough,” added Suraci during his remarks following his oath of office.

“Committeeman Suraci’s extensive experience will serve him well on this committee, having been his running mate for our three prior terms,” commented Committeeman Bob Wagner.  Wagner will retain his special assignments to the areas of Public Safety, Health and Recreation.

Deputy Mayor McCauley will maintain her special assignments to the areas of Finance, Taxes, Planning & Zoning, shared with Committeeman Frank DelCore.

Newly elected Committeeman Tomson will serve as liaison to Agricultural Advisory Committee, Board of Health, Parks and Recreation and Youth Services.

Suraci stated “this will again be a difficult budget year and we will continue our debt reduction and pay-as–you go programs to achieve taxpayer savings.”

Suraci reiterated the dedicated team approach this Committee takes with respect to the interest of the Township.  “It is really the collective efforts of this group, that brings to fruition the execution of the projects that are in the best interest of our taxpayers,” added the newly elected Mayor Suraci.
