At approximately 11:00 AM EST on Monday, December 10, the Hillsborough Township Bureau of Fire Safety notified Buckeye Pipe Line Company, L.P. ("Buckeye") of reports by area residents and businesses of a gasoline odor coming from a municipal sewer system near the intersection of U.S. Route 206 and New Amwell Road in Hillsborough Township, New Jersey. Buckeye immediately initiated an investigation, and discovered the presence of gasoline in a steel casing that encloses the pipeline in the area of the leak.

Buckeye is focused on ensuring the safety of the local community and responders as well as minimizing the release's environmental impact. The company's Spill Management Team is coordinating with relevant local, state and federal authorities including, among others, the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, Hillsborough Township Police, Fire Safety, Health Department, Municipal Utility Authority and Office of Emergency Management, Somerset County Office of Emergency Management, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Response crews have secured the area surrounding the leak and have begun work to expose the location of the leak in order to complete repairs of the pipeline.

Work crews remain on site to complete the repair of the pipeline and the remediation of the affected area. Monitoring of air quality and soil sampling near the release location has been ongoing.
