Christie Administration Proposes Plan for Allocating $1.8 Billion in Sandy Grants

The Christie administration has just announced its plan for the distribution of more than $1.8 billion in federal funding that New Jersey will receive from the U.S. Department of Housing an d Urban Development (HUD). This funding is the first phase of the Community Block Grant Funds to be used for restoration in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

The Christie administration's plan calls for supporting a wide va riety of programs that would help families rebuild and return to their homes, promote commercial and economic development in areas hit by the storm, provide assistance to local taxpayers and municipalities where needed, provide necessary funding for a tourism marketing campaign and send aid to New Jersey's most vulnerable citizens.

There is a seven-day period in place for public comment on the action plan before the Christie administration submits it to HUD. Once HUD approves the plan, the Christie administration will present detailed guidelines for allocating the funds.
