Sandy's Impact: 1,541 Hillsborough Businesses Affected

Hillsborough was largely spared the widespread damage other communities faced during November's Hurricane Sandy, but those residents with damage suffered a lot, according to a report from NJ Spotlight.

Compiling information from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the report finds 18 residents with storm damage-two severe and 16 with major damage.

According to the data, minor damage is considered up to $8,000, major damage is defined as costing $8,000 to $28,800 and severe damage is more than $28,800.

One rental units was damaged in Hillsborough, but a total of 1,541 businesses were impacted by the storm.

Another view is available from FEMA, which showed 324 applications received from homeowners, including three from Flagtown, with $1,497 being the average assessed damage. Of those, 88 properties were determined to have less than $10,000 in damage, and two had damage between $10,001 and $20,000.

An additional 77 renter  applicants sought assistance, with one determined to have suffered minor damage.
